Shakespeare Festival

Villains, fools, kings and lovers inhabit NCT’s stage as young Shakespearean pros flex their performance skills from the 13 to 16 May 2024. Each year in May, NCT hosts young Shakespeare enthusiasts between the ages of 10 and 25 from schools and universities across Gauteng—and further—in a 4-day festival run by Dr Rohan Quince and the South African Council of English Education. The showcase culminates in a presentation of the best monologues and scenes. Join us Thursday 16 May from 14:00 onwards. What kind of leader are you? Find your voice workshop…
What kind of leader are you? Kids will learn leadership skills and styles with NCT’s team of trained acting, voice and movement teachers. They’ll learn how to speak with confidence to make themselves heard, and take these skills into performance—dancing, singing, acting and moving—and at school. Kids will practice their very own monologue, speech or song with NCT’s trained professionals, who lead all workshops. Call now, your kids will love this leadership workshop!

The world needs saving. Who is your favourite super-hero? Do your kids imagine they’re super strong? Are able to fly? This three-day workshop will show kids how to use their imaginations to discover their own strengths, talents, and powers. In the workshop kids will use masks, costumes and stories to find their kids own strengths, talents and hidden powers. What superpowers are waiting to be unleashed, we wonder. NCT is hosting an open day of books and stories in celebration of “Drop Everything and Read Day”. on Saturday 13 April 2024, starting at 3pm. Bring your family to NCT’s beautiful campus; it’s a safe and warm environment for you and your children to enjoy an afternoon of stories, games and reading. You can take time to read to your children, listen to a child reading aloud, see your kids dressing up as characters from their favorite books, or just enjoy stories told by talented performers who are part of NCT’s theatre arts community. Your children can also play theatrical games and watch a Puppet Show. We’ll also have food stalls, picnic spaces, and second-hand book stalls. As you soak up the stories and sunshine, you can also learn more about NCT’s Saturday theatre workshops and upcoming productions.
The Shakespeare Club: Term 1 2024
Reserve your kid(s) now to attend NCT’s famous Shakespeare club run by Dr. Rohan Quince, a master Shakespearian. The club is for all students from Grades 6 –12 who’re interested in Shakespeare and can read his plays together, four plays per year. NCT Club also holds the Shakespeare Quiz, the Shakespeare Monologue competition, and the end of year Shakespeare Showcase for parents and families to watch your kids in action.

Story Telling
Children and their mums/caregivers are invited to explore a world of imagination and self-expression through storytelling, music and movement with teacher Tracey. Bring a blanket and cushions, and embark on a magical journey. These fun, child-centered workshops offer children a safe and friendly environment in which to build confidence and skills in the performing arts and life.

It’s Showtime Camp

Ages: 6-9, 10-12, Teens

Book now for the #NCTheatreSA Spring Camp, where kids 6 to 16 will be inspired by iconic Broadway musicals such as Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang, Beetlejuice, and Hamilton. Watch campers as they spread their creative wings, singing, dancing, and acting out the best songs from these musicals. Then, they’ll learn how to get into character, both physically and vocally, over five days. And on the last day of camp, children will perform for their families (no pressure). It’ll be the most fun they’ve had in a long time! Book now for the adventure of a lifetime!
Community Theatre
NCT takes our productions on tour to peri-urban and rural areas, where schools often don’t have halls or large classrooms to present plays, so we present in community centres, and give extra performances to local communities. Schools and communities value this especially when the productions are a for a set-work and are of current social value.
